Although South Africa is quite a distance for many intended participants from e.g. Europe, this should not give the mistaken impression that longer distance implies proportionally higher cost i.e. that attending WAKERS will be much more expensive than a comparable event in Europe. South Africa is much cheaper in terms of accommodation, venue costs, food and drinks, tourist outings etc. Flights around the workshop dates can be had (Lufthansa; late November 2018) for €630-660, while 3-star B&Bs can be had for €40/night. Assuming five nights, that yields a minimum of around €900 for travel and accommodation.
